Management Characteristics of Our Clients
Management effectiveness and leadership are the most important factors contributing to our clients' success. Management includes senior executives (i.e. CEO, CFO, COO, or Chief Sustainability Officer) and an experienced and diverse Board of Directors or Advisory Board.
Our clients' manage their resources based upon a corporate mission that emphasizes environmental sustainability. We grow and maintain professional relationships with management who have demonstrated track records of problem solving, technical expertise, and proven leadership over lengthy tenure. A majority of our clients are from the following sectors:
CleanTech Companies
"CleanTech" companies provide proprietary or capital equipment or software, replacement equipment, consumable materials, software and industrial processes for the production or use of alternative energy. We advise breakthrough cleantech companies which change the value proposition for consumers - providing consumers both practical and environmentally sustainable solutions. Many of these technologies may be unproven and present operational risk for project developers, requiring institutional investors who are comfortable with higher risk and financial return.
Alternative Energy Developers
Development companies fund and sponsor the construction and long-term ownership of alternative energy plants, transmission and distribution. We work with energy supply companies to make business less carbon intensive, advise on energy sales into carbon constrained markets and construct innovative hedging arrangements. Typically the project technology is proven and funded in a project finance framework. The technology has minimal risk of not performing as guaranteed by qualified engineers.
Agribusiness Owners
We see a changing paradigm in the energy business. Agribusiness firms are now energy producers - this requires a unique set of expertise which we provide. Due to the expansion of alternative energy technologies to the farm, ranch, sea, desert, or dairy barn, agribusiness professionals are presented with tremendous opportunities to participate in our global energy picture.
Alternative Energy Service Providers
Energy service companies design, install and operate alternative energy producing assets. They also may provide energy efficiency improvements or environmental monitoring and diagnostics. Service providers also manage energy related assets, such as distributed energy production for a data center, or conduct trading of alternative energy itself or related environmental compliance credits.
Financial Institutions
Financial institutions are increasingly offering loan, deposit and other financial instruments which are linked to environmental sustainability. An example is a commercial real estate insurance product which emphasizes sustainable building practices. We advise financial institutions in developing a proactive strategy towards climate change; and structure financial products to help manage and capitalize on risk exposures created by a changing political climate. We help create value in regulatory driven markets, developing innovative asset/liability strategies and products which attract new customers and retain existing environmentally conscious customers.
